The Mighty BRAHMA

The BRAHMA is one of the largest chicken breeds, it was known as the "Shanghai" chicken, then it was imported to US and crossed with the grey chittagong (which originates from India, near Brahmaputra River). In 1852 George Burnham exported some of these birds to England as a gift to queen Victoria, which resulted their value to rise up!

The most known colors of brahma are the light(white columbian) brahmas, and the dark(silver partridge) brahmas.
Of course there are many color varieties such as gold partridge, blue, blue partridge, splash, red pyle,Issabella, BSO(blue silver orange),blue columbian, buff and many more.
Its a meat chicken, which means that is not recomented if you are looking for a layer,
it will lay around 150 eggs per year.

The rooster's weight varies at 5-6 kg and hen's around 4,5 kg.

They are really mild birds, roosters are always by the hens side and they do not fight with each other as much as other breeds would do.
Another important thing about brahmas, is that hens are very good mothers, they go broody pretty easy and they raise the chicks without problems. Of all the brahma hens i've had, there was not even one that wouldnt go broody.
